Letter from Hong Kong
Dear Partner,
“Give light and people will find the way.”
Here it is another newsletter and I ask myself, “where does the time go?”.
It’s hard to believe but we are now 10 months into this unprecedented global challenge and are we any closer to returning to the world of “normal” in travel?
We are confident travel will come back and there will be happy days ahead but for the “here” and the “now” I want to let our friends in the industry know we are thinking about you and hope you are all faring well. We care and we count the days until we can meet up again. Spreading the concern and care and just asking, “how are you doing” brings us that much closer.
I want to close this letter by sharing hot off the press news which, I hope, will give light to us all. The Hong Kong & Singapore governments have agreed to open a travel bubble allowing travels without quarantine restrictions and a controlled itinerary. As long as travellers from both regions have a negative COVID-19 test taken in advance of their trip they can travel freely to either place. It might not seem like a major breakthrough but this little light shows us the way forward.
Enjoy our latest newsletter - keep your lights shining and hope to share our best wishes with you all.
With best wishes from the team at A&K Northeast Asia!

A Dream upon the Inland Sea - Guntu - The Floating Ryokan
A blend of ryokan and cruise ship, the elegant Guntu is a floating Japanese inn that sails the waters of Japan’s tranquil Seto Inland Sea. Limited to just 38 guests (in 19 luxurious cabins) this is one of Japan’s most exclusive service experiences.
Setting sail from Hiroshima, the Guntu visits, as part of its shore calls, Japan's island of art, Naoshima as well as the Shimanami Islands celebrated for their unique culinary traditions.
The onboard experience is a celebration of Japanese service from its six-seat Sushi bar which serves the freshest seafood to the elegant lounge where guests enjoy traditional matcha (green tea) and exquisite sweets prepared by the tea master. Best of all the Guntu preserves the unique culture of a traditional ryokan including hinoki cypress bathtubs and saunas in a public or private setting.

Wild Sabah
Go off the beaten path and back, back, back to the ancient past when you discover the wonders of Sabah’s incredible nature. Our A&K newsletter recommendation is to experience the rainforests of Sabah, more than 100 million years old and home to the most prolific wildlife in Asia – bar none. Luxuriant vegetation that nurtures a truly remarkable diversity of wildlife. Here lives the Borneo Pygmy Elephant, the world’s smallest species, the orangutan, Asia’s largest primate species and the majestic hornbill, the avian emperor of the jungle. And that’s just the beginning because the green veil of forest is home to 222 different mammals, 320 species of birds, 100 species of amphibians and 394 different species of fish. Topping that Sabah’s forests are home to 15,000 plant species of which 6,000 types are found nowhere else on earth.

Seoul Much Fun!
Seoul is the world’s most “wired” city and for good reason – it is all about youth, activity, creativity, music, movement and yes, FUN!
Start your day trip by exploring the world of “Parasite” the international Korean film sensation that swept the 2020 Oscars. This specially designed tour takes you to some of the film’s most pivotal scenes beginning with a visit to Doijissal Supermarket (in the film it is called Woori Supermarket), where you sample some of the snacks featured in the film. You will also visit the set of stairs in Ki-taek’s village that play such a key part in the story. This is a movie lovers cinematic tour experience.
Later, get into the groove when you join a K Pop dance lesson with a class full of international fans held in the birthplace of the K Pop music and dance movement. Kick it high and to the sky and remember to have fun.
Then enjoy some “Seoul Food” BBQ in one of the city’s best local BBQ joints.
Now after being parasites and dancers what comes next? Time to relax and give into the “beauty” of it all with the ultimate Korean spa spectacular.
